Malversaciones
Read moreTitle Malversaciones Author Bravo Varela, Hernán Publisher Almadía Ediciones, S. A. P. I. de C. V. Imprint Almadia ISBN 9786078667086 Edition number 1 Publication year 2019 Pages 144 Format Printed THEMA Fiction and Related items Synopsis The least that can be demanded of an essayist is ingenuity in constructing analogies, elegant memory, a significant arsenal of references that are not entirely outlandish, although they are of an unexpected mold, and, crowning it all, an educated lust for prose. Hernán Bravo Varela conquered these virtues from his youthful writing. Now, with Malversaciones, he gives us eighteen essays of early maturity where the joy of the boy and the disenchantment of experience alternate and caress each other until they merge into a single and delicious breath, a drift that draws from the prose poem as well as from anecdotes, erudition, the little note in verse, literary criticism and the chronicle. Divided into four sections – Mexican poets; foreign authors; places and themes and practices of the poetic; The most beautiful final reflection on the ethos, praxis and politics of art, Malversaciones weaves a praise of deviation and madness, of the staging of corruptibility as a possible refuge for human descendants, of the cry as song and reflection, of hubris and cowardice as practices of the sublime, and it does not shy away from either the elegiac rage at the murder of the poet Guillermo Fernández or the self-parodic tenderness of a failed poetic-terrorist-adolescent attack against Jaime Sabines. It does all this, moreover, as an exhalation: a brief succession of lashes of lucidity, a –these are the author’s words– “patrimonial declaration”, a sort of freehand self-portrait of the reader as prince and beggar of the world. Los días terrenales
Read moreTitle Los días terrenales Author José Revueltas Publisher Ediciones Era Imprint – ISBN 9786074454147 Edition number 1 Publication year 2015 Pages 272 Format Print and digital THEMA Fiction: general and literary Synopsis When this novel was published in 1949 it was the center of passionate arguments and accusations. In it, the well-known author of Dios en la tierra and Los muros de agua addressed the themes of class struggle with an introspective vision which, while being faithful to his Marxist militancy, questions deeply the “positive character” dogma by presenting characters with an inner life ridden with the contradictions of the human condition. Today this book appears intensely alive. foreign rights contact Michelle Pérez Lobo E-mail michelle@edicionesera.com.mx -

Imprint Almadia ISBN 9786078851829 Edition number 1 Publication year 2024 Pages 192 Format Printed THEMA Fiction and Related items Synopsis I could say that this novel is about Gregorio Cárdenas, the first serial murderer of modern Mexico, whose crimes shocked a country that was trying to leave behind the embers of the Revolution. But in reality it is something more: instead of just talking about the figure of the murderer, I was also interested in delving into the social context that fostered it, and that seems to be repeated today. In these pages there is an attempt to understand where the sexist violence that plagues Mexico comes from. Why were women forced to commit crimes in the 1940s? Why were there clandestine abortions that put the lives of dozens of girls at risk? Why do the chroniclers point out that it was a man –detective José Acosta Suárez– who caught Gregorio Cárdenas, when there was an agent, Ana María Dorantes, whose work was fundamental in the case, and who is now unjustly forgotten? Why are serial killers a cultural construct for which we are all responsible? This book is a portrait of that era known as the Alemanism, but it also involves the present in an important way, with the epidemic of feminicides that the State of Mexico is experiencing, where some of the bloodiest serial killers of recent years have been conceived. It is important to note that it is not pleasant to read this novel, but it could not be otherwise. The twilight region is precisely that place that we avoid turning around, because we believe that it is better not to see, to ignore what happens around us while the victims accumulate. foreign rights contact Elizabet Osorio Osorio E-mail eosorio@corporativoventura.mx -
