Synopsis “Tequila has no history, there is no anecdote that confirms its birth”; such is the statement made by writer Álvaro Mutis in the text that serves as an extensive epigraph to this book. In search of that anecdote that would trace the path followed by “the most Mexican of drinks,” the author of this work has been rummaging through archives and libraries since 1970 to offer readers practically everything that has been clarified on the subject, from the most remote times to the present day.

Synopsis "Bruno is not very attached to his grandfather, who is cold and distant. Discovering a me- mory loss condition and a deal between the two of them will unite their ties in the most moving way for whatever time they have left. His love for drawing and his fascination with Japanese animation films will accompany Bruno in his search for answers, and his maturation processes on his exploration of his complex family nucleus. A novel full of emotional moments that conveys to us the frenzy of youth. Synopsis The least that can be demanded of an essayist is ingenuity in constructing analogies, elegant memory, a significant arsenal of references that are not entirely outlandish, although they are of an unexpected mold, and, crowning it all, an educated lust for prose. Hernán Bravo Varela conquered these virtues from his youthful writing. Now, with Malversaciones, he gives us eighteen essays of early maturity where the joy of the boy and the disenchantment of experience alternate and caress each other until they merge into a single and delicious breath, a drift that draws from the prose poem as well as from anecdotes, erudition, the little note in verse, literary criticism and the chronicle. Divided into four sections – Mexican poets; foreign authors; places and themes and practices of the poetic; The most beautiful final reflection on the ethos, praxis and politics of art, Malversaciones weaves a praise of deviation and madness, of the staging of corruptibility as a possible refuge for human descendants, of the cry as song and reflection, of hubris and cowardice as practices of the sublime, and it does not shy away from either the elegiac rage at the murder of the poet Guillermo Fernández or the self-parodic tenderness of a failed poetic-terrorist-adolescent attack against Jaime Sabines. It does all this, moreover, as an exhalation: a brief succession of lashes of lucidity, a –these are the author’s words– “patrimonial declaration”, a sort of freehand self-portrait of the reader as prince and beggar of the world. Synopsis Yellow Plum is an eastern monk. He lives in a monastery in the mountains. He is also a poet and a calligrapher. His job in the monastery is to take care of a garden of stones and sand in front of which his brothers used to sit and meditate. He writes poems that surprise you with their depth. Yellow Plum learns to name and care for plants, mainly a wide variety of flowers that are new to him. Throughout the narrative, which is woven together with simple prose, the poems written by the monk are incorporated. These closely follow the structure of Japanese haiku. The illustrations, sculptures made on paper and ceramics, establish a dialogue with the images that emerge from the poems.

Synopsis I once had a company (I was the boss and had only one employee) dedicated solely to publishing a literary magazine. One of the things I did frequently was fill out power of attorney letters. At that time I went out to buy them at the stationery store, until one day it occurred to me to capture it on my computer and, when necessary, print it. Towards the end of 2007, in a moment of leisure, I reread that document that almost all of us signed without fully understanding the legal terms it contained (“dilatory and peremptory exceptions,” “auctions,” “interlocutory and definitive matters,” etc.) and I decided to compose a love “poem” with those words as a solitary game without the purpose of publication. In June 2008, I was invited to a writers’ meeting in San Luis Potosí. To conclude, we participants were asked to read something from our work. Each one would have a maximum of three minutes. Of course, the poets had plenty to choose from. A writer of short fiction could have read his complete work, but we, the narrators, were left defenseless. Then I remembered that the “poem” entitled Carta poder was on my computer. I transcribed it on a sheet of hotel letterhead and read it. Some of my colleagues liked the game and there was even someone who asked me to give them the manuscript. Back in Mexico City, I asked myself: And who is she, the recipient? From that question was born Poesía eras tú. Francisco Hinojosa

Synopsis In Hukuméiji, a town located in the north of Colombia, near the Don Diego River and the Caribbean Sea, the characters in the four stories that make up this novel are stripped of parts of their body—their tongue, hands, legs, eyes—they suffer the death of their loved ones, and they have even been stripped of their land or crops; that is, they suffer the mutilation of the different parts that make them up. Thus, the body becomes a system to explain loss, so that the author weaves a writing that embodies the pain and ravages of violence exercised by power anywhere in the world. Likewise, nature—present in the stories through the jungle, plants, crops, or torrential rains—links human bodies with the territory: violence is executed on bodies and land in an analogous way. If, as journalist Ana Teresa Toro says, in Latin America “the body makes culture, the body thinks, articulates and gestures ideas, manifests history in a forceful way, it is not a mere consumer or a product, it is an idea and a concept”, El asedio animal participates in the current conversation that links, for example, the struggles of women and indigenous peoples with the care of the land and the protection of natural resources, as part of the same process that considers bodies – individual, collective, natural – as territories of resistance against an economic system that seeks to manage life, death, flesh and its desires.

Synopsis Irene and Alberto are a young couple living in the city of Monterrey. Their perfect and stable middle-class life is turned upside down when the pregnancy they were so excited about is interrupted and they lose the child who would complete their happiness. But tragedies do not come alone, and a gang of thieves desecrates the couple's home. In a desperate and blind attempt to balance their lives, the protagonists will become the perpetrators and rob the thieves of a very precious possession. Then comes an escape along the roads of the north of the country. In these passages, the novelist offers beautiful and hallucinatory descriptions of the desert, its mountains, its vastness and its towns, until the moment arrives when each character confronts their deepest and most unspeakable feelings. This disturbing novel confirms Antonio Ramos as a first-rate narrator. It is a reflection on the nature of the human being, that being tormented by his desires, always determined to seek his happiness in the place that seems to be the least suitable. Antonio Ramos recently received the 2015 UANL Arts Award for his literary career.

Synopsis It deals with a stigmatized suburban neighborhood of Palermo (Italy) that has been the object of political and urban planning projects. The author confronts the logic of stigmatization to the point of dismantling the images that configure the “strangeness” of its inhabitants, a neighborhood populated by “savages”, without faith or law, submerged in promiscuity and anomie. These imaginary walls, daily constructions of the media and of institutional and socio-political devices, weave ruptures and abysses, crack personal identities and present individual trajectories as failures.

Synopsis This work offers, from an intersectional perspective, an exploration of violence, gender and resistance from the Global South. In the current global context of genocide, displacement, conflict, armed struggle and stark inequality, women, children and minority groups are the most severely affected by the brutal practices of oppression that are perpetuated in conjunction with prevailing colonial narratives. The book engages in a South-South dialogue based on studies of gender, violence and resistance, as phenomena that bear similarities in Latin America and the Middle East.

Examples of this can be found in stories of wars, accidents or illnesses where, despite the vicissitude, people continue with a favorable attitude towards life.
