The voice of the protagonists of the cane-world comes to life from each of these places in movement. Thus the prose of this work honors the best traditions and versions of good ethnography.

Synopsis "The love became history, then legend, until it turned into myth. Some, with luck, find compatibility and passion, perhaps a bit of affection they can call 'love,' but the reality is sad for those who hold onto hope. The Great World Civil War, considered the most devastating in history, buried the legendary quests of the Elenion in fear and blood. The Paranormals stopped pursuing their soulmates to confront humans for their right to exist. Despite the disadvantage in numbers, they won; but they lost much in the process. When humans finally accepted treaties of peace and equality, everyone returned to a strange normality of governments and began to accept each other among different species without noticing that a vital piece for their existence was missing: Love. As the years passed, the small fragments of real love faded like flames in the rain. The Paranormals abandoned the search for their Elenion, and humans began to treat marriage as a commercial transaction. They say that hope is the first thing to appear when everything is lost. What happens when you don't know you've lost it? Perhaps a single drop of hope is all it takes to restore faith."

Synopsis During the years when the threat of the extreme right was taking on a global scope, the public scene in Mexico was disputed between the progressive faction affiliated with the government of Lázaro Cárdenas del Río and a reaction that opposed his policies and did not hide the sympathy that the fascist regimes of Europe inspired in it. In accordance with the demands of the times, the young poet Efraín Huerta did not hesitate to appeal to a “moral, psychological and aesthetic” definition of the artist or the intellectual. It is not surprising, then, the combative tone of many of his contributions to the newspaper that the Cardenistas founded to counteract the attacks that the media conglomerates launched against his government: El Popular. In the not inconsiderable universe of these spaces, until now forgotten by literary historiography and which are presented in this necessary volume, the different facets of a fundamental trajectory for Mexican letters can be read. Although it would seem that political commentary was the main driving force behind Huerta's pen in these columns, they also have room for a diverse spectrum of registers and interests: popular speech, urban spaces, literary reviews, among others. Of all the scenarios outlined in Huerta's more than one thousand one hundred contributions to El Popular, two stand out for their centrality: on the one hand, the political denunciation of world and Mexican fascism; on the other, the response of poetry - and of literature and art in general - to this overwhelming reality.

Synopsis If a lady is walking down the street and she falls down shockingly, one should not laugh out loud, except if one is Mexican. André Breton once said that Mexico was the country of choice for black humor. He was not exaggerating. And contrary to what they say out there, literature also proves him right: from José T. de Cuéllar to Jorge Ibargüengoitia, to mention the classics, several national writers have successfully resisted the onslaught of "serious literature".

    THEMA Critical philosophy
Synopsis We will make an exception: for this book we will not talk about its themes or the authors with whom it dialogues, but rather its effects. Hidden within its pages is an invitation to live, think and position oneself from Latin America, which—in short—means nothing other than experiencing the crisis at all times. Latin America understood as a temporary, dynamic fact; a being-being that situates, but also transforms. Living in crisis is, then, presented as a fruitful option towards new modalities of consciousness. The route that we present here does not go through ideal concepts; in fact, it avoids the transcendental: it is on cultural consciousness and concrete experience (from the Latin concrescere, “grown by accumulation”) that the yeast of this book works. In the analysis of daily living/dying as a phenomenon, we are presented with a path towards that which is understood through the senses and not reason; towards what is prior to concepts and even to the acquisition of language: to what is involuntary/embodied memory. It is in the concrete and radical meeting of all these parts that a decolonial key is offered: time as a linear (and progress) structure that leaves everything behind, opens to simultaneous times that operate as a tool to situate Latin American consciousness in its pluriversality, in an ecstatic, simultaneous structure, open to affective and memorial dimensions in a being exposed in skin, heart and mind to what is different.

Synopsis With whom and why do we form our deepest bonds? Where are the words that speak of life after the death of a body we love? And how do we deal with absence? In Isabel Zapata's first novel, the observation of details that we sometimes call poetry and the precision of the words of those who have explored silence coexist delicately, as if on an altar of language. Divided into halves that are like two sides of the same coin, Troika tells the extraordinary relationship between a girl and her dog, the story of a woman who travels to another city to find work and try to survive the mourning with her dead, and how their lives become fatally intertwined.

Synopsis Blood is not only flesh, but represents the historical-material unity in which human life is constituted. Blood is the symbol of the spiritual body, of the vital matter that is historically placed at the center of the constitution not only of one's own body but, from the lived body, of the properly human social world. This book is a journey through the spiritual genesis of human animality and, with it, the material origin of the generative sociality of existence.

Synopsis The pre-Hispanic remains of Mexico City, once the scene of extreme rites of a faith that we still have trouble understanding, are turned into crime scenes by a fanatic who seeks to restore the greatness of the great Tenochtitlan. The enormous metropolis suddenly pulsates to the rhythm of an ancient song that awakens a past of oppression and resistance, of integration and disagreement; the bloody trace of the clash of two worlds. After spending days living as a homeless person to write an investigative piece, Casasola, a reporter for Semanario Sensacional, is driven to follow the trail of The Ritual Killer. Elisa Matos, an archaeologist, hostage to an impulsive and chaotic love life, becomes an indispensable ally during his investigations, but also the object of his desire. Banished gods who refuse to die, characters determined to understand an enigmatic and distant past, authorities who suspect everyone. This novel has already become a classic of Mexican crime fiction in which crime, horror and fantasy literature come together in a thriller full of emotion and suspense.
