Synopsis With the intelligent curiosity and the transparent and warm language that has been shown in Cuerpo extraño and Cuaderno de faros, Jazmina Barrera once again explores her body through writing, but this time through the first moments of her motherhood. Almost attending an intimate and familiar conversation, which accompanies the author's thoughts in the chronicle of the transformations of her body, her sensations, fears and reactions, while going through the work of women who through photographs, texts or paintings found in art their own language to relate and understand - as mothers, daughters or companions - their experiences of gestation, childbirth and breastfeeding. Visiting the stories of the women in her family or artists such as Tina Modotti, Frida Kahlo, Rosario Castellanos, Marlene Dumas, Mary Shelley, Ursula K. Le Guin, Virginia Woolf, Luz Jiménez, Simone de Beauvoir, Alice Munro or Margaret Atwood, Barrera's lucid and honest gaze does not give in to easy sentimentality; The writer explores the darkness of pregnancy and tells the story of pain, anguish and happiness in a pristine language that is amazed by the mystery, so common but so magical, of giving birth. Linea nigra is the story of a woman whose body is transformed into a writing that she will gradually decipher, while her writing is also transformed by her pregnant body.

Synopsis The fascinating short stories of this book narrate trips, journeys, transitions. Accustomed to traveling or to its concept, the characters slowly find a never- before-visited vital zone, that sometimes transforms them and allows the arrival of the flaws, fixations, peculiarities or weaknesses that identifies them. In García Bergua’s narrative, always calm in its exhibition, the melancholy and humorousness of human lives surface, intertwined.

Synopsis When I started working with Almadía, almost three decades ago, they already conceived their collections as a gift for readers. Los Culpables was the first book I designed for them, in 2007. I thought of a graphic proposal that would surprise: the challenge was to bring the colorful, tactile, and artisanal atmosphere of Oaxaca to paper. I knew I had the opportunity to do something different in terms of graphic design. I read the book and had a lot of fun; the stories are short and have an exceptional sense of humor. Talking with the team, we agreed that the emblematic image on the cover should come from the phrase “It was the iguana’s fault,” which opens the fifth story in the book, “The Mayan Twilight.” The double cover of Los Culpables started a double game that survives to this day. At that time, Juan Villoro commented that just as the iguana changes its skin, Almadía’s books are skinnable and the shirt is a second skin that reveals the secret image on the cover. I took a risk with the design because Almadía was open to change. Perhaps the shirt die is the most daring one we have ever printed: the reptile was too big and in the first edition the “second skin” was very fragile. Since then, this work has been reprinted and reissued many times, becoming the one with the most readers in the history of the publishing house. From the first reprint, I modified the design and added a branch that runs through the body of the sauropsid to give greater resistance and strength to the cardboard. To celebrate its seventh anniversary, Almadía published a commemorative edition of this same work in large format, hardcover and illustrated by me. These drawings are tangential glances at Juan’s funny stories. It seemed to me a cacophonous gesture to bring images that are described in the story to the graphic, so I preferred to represent scenes that perhaps could have happened, turning the images into satellites of the author’s narrative universe. In this third edition and eighth reprint, the emblematic lizard lives more discreetly on the cover, and the fact that I wrote the little text you are reading right now is also, without a doubt, the fault of the iguana. Synopsis In the space that poetry opens between the flow of everyday words, a series of possible circumstances surrounding a working-class Mexican woman, she analyzes one of the core concepts of the capitalist economy. What is the “middle class”? Who is part of it? Is there a way to describe it, to count it? Are its members defined by the calculation of their income, what they own or dream of? By their future projects? While reflecting on these questions, Yolanda Segura tells the story of Eloísa, a woman born in the 1940s who has worked since she was very young. With a stable job and a secure salary, she soon faces the possibility of getting married and having a family. She wants to guarantee herself a prosperous and happy existence. Will it be enough to have a husband, to work her day, to obtain a mortgage loan? Why does the economic growth of a person or a country always happen in the future and never in the present? Do financial benefits increase social well-being? In the midst of inflation and wage cuts, of crisis and debt, how will she manage her time, desires and affections? Are there other ways to invent a livable life for a working woman? For Yolanda Segura, a poem is a form of resistance, a way of cancelling the economic value of language.

Synopsis There are books that invite us to the primal house, sacred and obscene at once: the house of myth, of beginning and end, the house that has always been there, even before its first inhabitants, the cavern. At the same time, the cavern is the magical archive of all rites, all dreams, all stories: the cavern is the origin of literature and, by going back to it, we return to its most resistant form and to all its branches. In this book we find characters haunted by ghosts, but also those which, when they reach the other edge of their lives, end up becoming spectres themselves.

Synopsis Myriam Moscona enunciates the death of the English language through twenty-nine poems written around the death of artists whose work was written in English – such as Ernest Hemingway, William Carlos Williams, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe, Agatha Christie, Lord Byron, Leonard Cohen, Dylan Thomas, Elizabeth Bishop and Anne Sexton, among others. The author investigates language with the curiosity and wit that distinguish her, to find in words their powerful plasticity to create sounds and images. Beyond the playful composition that distances the poems from funereal solemnity, there is something disconcerting: why would the English language die? If English is the most widely spoken language in the world, the lingua franca of communications, business and science, what would have to happen – besides the death of its most excellent poets – for the English language to disappear?

Synopsis An album of wonders and an anthology of nostalgic B-sides; a compilation of wonders and rarities, or a Best of moments recovered in a verse, a riff, a harmony—this book is also a personal manifesto and a declaration of faith in what José Agustín once called "the new classical music." Shadows of Rock is, thus, less a reasoned catalog of bands, singles, and singers than the emotional jukebox of an era and a generation marked by the birth of that thunderous mythology of chords and screams that prevails to this day.
