El asedio animal
Read moreTitle El asedio animal Author Londoño, Vanessa Publisher Almadía Ediciones, S. A. P. I. de C. V. Imprint Almadia ISBN 9786078764471 Edition number 1 Publication year 2021 Pages 112 Format Printed THEMA Fiction and Related items Synopsis In Hukuméiji, a town located in the north of Colombia, near the Don Diego River and the Caribbean Sea, the characters in the four stories that make up this novel are stripped of parts of their body—their tongue, hands, legs, eyes—they suffer the death of their loved ones, and they have even been stripped of their land or crops; that is, they suffer the mutilation of the different parts that make them up. Thus, the body becomes a system to explain loss, so that the author weaves a writing that embodies the pain and ravages of violence exercised by power anywhere in the world. Likewise, nature—present in the stories through the jungle, plants, crops, or torrential rains—links human bodies with the territory: violence is executed on bodies and land in an analogous way. If, as journalist Ana Teresa Toro says, in Latin America “the body makes culture, the body thinks, articulates and gestures ideas, manifests history in a forceful way, it is not a mere consumer or a product, it is an idea and a concept”, El asedio animal participates in the current conversation that links, for example, the struggles of women and indigenous peoples with the care of the land and the protection of natural resources, as part of the same process that considers bodies – individual, collective, natural – as territories of resistance against an economic system that seeks to manage life, death, flesh and its desires. foreign rights contact Elizabet Osorio Osorio E-mail eosorio@corporativoventura.mx -

La Armada de la República Argentina y sus formas de habitar el Atlántico Sur Author Rosana Guber Publisher Sb editorial Imprint Sb editorial ISBN 9789878918198 Edition number 1 Publication year 2022 Pages 302 Format Printed THEMA Social & cultural anthropology Synopsis The literature on the Malvinas War has paid more attention to the political-strategic order of naval performance than to how the military men trained to wage war at sea lived and participated in the theater of war. This book shows the Argentine sailors in a battlefield that took place in the depths of the submarines, on the surfaces of the destroyers, the corvettes, the aircraft carrier, the cruiser and its rafts, in the sky of the naval aviation, and on the shores and land outposts of the marines, the tactical divers and the amphibious commandos. foreign rights contact Andrés Telesca E-mail andres.telesca@editorialsb.com -
Ciento cincuenta cuentos cortos
Read moreTitle Ciento cincuenta cuentos cortos Author Davis, Lydia Publisher Almadía Ediciones, S. A. P. I. de C. V. Imprint Almadia ISBN 9786078667260 Edition number 1 Publication year 2022 Pages 264 Format Printed THEMA Fiction and Related items Synopsis «As powerful as Kafka, as subtle as Flaubert, as defining of an era, in its own way, as Proust.» ALI SMITH (THE GUARDIAN) Lydia Davis is one of the most representative North American writers of our times. With a career that has seen her receive the most prestigious awards of today, her name has been inextricably linked to the genre of the micro-story or flash of fiction, and to a type of writing in which there is no room for excess, but rather for succinct depth. This anthology, personally prepared by the author, gives an account of this complex but precise and meticulous work that continues to surprise more and more readers. With a strong introspective tone, and more concerned with the complex relationship between daily life and language (how to translate everyday experience into words? How do the devices of grammar and syntax affect or transform reality?), these small prose pieces often dispense with the resource of plot to take the form of shrewd meditations, detailed descriptions of obsession, disturbing logical games and words that point out possibilities rather than determining truths. At the same time, this collection is a remarkable reflection on writing as a habit: 150 short stories guided by an admirable intelligence and an exquisite sense of humor. foreign rights contact Elizabet Osorio Osorio E-mail eosorio@corporativoventura.mx -

Going out to fish in the open sea in a rowboat requires courage, decision and daring, just like life itself, but to what extent should one respond to the challenges that arise at every moment? Where is the right balance between courage and prudence? The laws of the sailor give a possible answer: they are the rules that the strange navigator has abided by to govern his own life, and that he shares with whoever freely wishes to adopt them.
