Synopsis The present work gathers a set of articles on Mictlantecuhtli, the Mexica god of death. From the description and analysis of two sculptures exhumed in 1994 in the House of the Eagles of the Great Temple of Tenochtitlan, the texts presented here expose some key ideas of Mesoamerican eschatology. In the first article, Leonardo López Luján and Vida Mercado give an account of the conditions in which the sculptures were found and the restoration process after their discovery.
