Synopsis | This work brings together the chronicles that Guillermo Sheridan published in the magazine Letras Libres between 1999 and 2006, and some that have appeared in the newspaper Reforma. A deeply rooted custom and inextricable usage that speaks to the Mexican confusion about the uses of affection, the "encarguito"—thing and message, object and symbol—is an elaborate form of nightmare. The choice of the object to be commissioned falls within what in the theory of Mexican identity is known as "ocurrencia" or "detallito" (little detail), a phenomenon that consists of applying ingenuity to the meticulous concoction of a nonsense. |
