Synopsis | Yellow Plum is an eastern monk. He lives in a monastery in the mountains. He is also a poet and a calligrapher. His job in the monastery is to take care of a garden of stones and sand in front of which his brothers used to sit and meditate. He writes poems that surprise you with their depth. Yellow Plum learns to name and care for plants, mainly a wide variety of flowers that are new to him. Throughout the narrative, which is woven together with simple prose, the poems written by the monk are incorporated. These closely follow the structure of Japanese haiku. The illustrations, sculptures made on paper and ceramics, establish a dialogue with the images that emerge from the poems. |
