| Synopsis | There is a “science of the world” encompassing the means of avoiding, insofar as possible, the ills that affect us as a society. This science contains “all the arts and all the sciences,” and whoever possessed it would be “a wellspring of knowledge.” These ideas were left to us by Simón Rodríguez, also known as Samuel Robinson (Caracas, 1769–Amotape, 1854), who devoted his life to the pursuit of this desired and marvelous science. This work seeks to reconstruct the intellectual journey of this distinguished Hispanic American thinker, who, in his quixotic adventure of exploring and attempting to conquer the science of the world, set his sights and course toward an endless horizon. After a decade of research and patient writing, readers are presented with a collection of studies examining and discussing issues of particular relevance to Simón Rodríguez’s work. |
