| Synopsis | The present book embarks on a critical-conceptual history of the notion of life in the West. The different discourses around life (such as biology, ethics, politics, phenomenology and theology) characterize it by its capacity to be a cause and principle of itself. Hence, we can speak of a bio-political paradigm of autarky. This deconstructive analysis shows that if the characteristic of life and the living is its being referred to itself, then all contact and trade with the other is either accidental or anecdotal. |
